The Ports of Ayr and Troon are located on the West of Scotland at the lower end of the Firth of Clyde. They are widely regarded as exemplars within ABP and have won awards in the field of Operational Performance and Customer Service. Quality of life in this semi-rural area is generally regarded as being high with the local road network also giving excellent connections to the City of Glasgow and beyond.

The Role

Reporting to the Port Manager the role is responsible for the management of all Commercial, Administration and TimberLINK Operations at the ports of Ayr & Troon. The Commercial and TimberLINK Manager will also assist the Port Manager with regular port budget proposals and plans.

Accountabilities

Commercial

  • Marketing the ports and meeting with existing and potential customers.
  • Responding to enquiries for quotes for various cargoes/projects.
  • Working closely with the Port Manager on commercial matters.
  • Assist and support preparation of commercial agreements.
  • Updating CRM system with Leads and Opportunities.
  • Assisting Port Manager with analysis of financial and tonnage figures.

TimberLINK

  • Involvement with Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) as required.
  • Scheduling of TimberLINK vessels to maximise usage.
  • Communication with all parties involved with transport of logs.
  • Ensure smooth berth allocation at Ayr and Troon.
  • Checking all TimberLINK administration data earmarked for FCS.
  • Authorising all supplier invoices.
  • Correspond with FCS on estimating annual subsidy utilisation.

Administration

  • Management of Administration Staff.
  • Ensuring administration tasks carried out within appropriate timescales to meet customer/group requirements.
  • Analysing internal and external systems as required.
  • Assist and support Port Manager with budget forecasting.
  • Provide weekly financial revenue estimates.
  • Ensure correct handling of weighbridge operations.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Entrepreneurial outlook.
  • Degree in an appropriate subject, e.g. MBA / Business Management / Accountancy / Logistics.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Proven people management experience.
  • Valid Driving Licence.
  • Have a can-do attitude.

Ideal:

  • Strong I.T skills.
  • Proficient with Excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to learn new I.T systems.
  • Commitment to getting a job done.
  • Willingness to travel to Argyll for TimberLINK operational meetings.
  • Willingness to travel to other ABP ports as necessary.
