CPD & Training Officer

The Law Society of Scotland is seeking a commercially minded conference organiser to work on law and business focused events. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a range of commercial conferences and seminars, and will be expected to have demonstrable skills in a number of key areas. Applications are invited from anyone who meets the Employee Specification.

To succeed in the role, you must be comfortable and confident in dealing with senior members of the profession, and understand both the role the Society plays within the legal profession and the requisite standards required. You must also be action-orientated, outcome focused, highly personable and possess commercial acumen. It is also vital that you have excellent IT skills – we are planning a significant ICT change programme over the next 12 months and it is imperative that you have the necessary skills and attitude to contribute positively to this vital area.

The successful applicant will be given ownership of two business areas which we have identified for development and commercial growth. This is a great opportunity for someone looking for autonomy and a chance to show their skills across strategy, marketing, partnership building and business development. We will support and enable you to make the most of your abilities and as your employer will provide significant training opportunities.

We promote a positive team culture and work together to meet shared goals. Our aim is to become the largest and best provider of CPD training to the legal profession. Consequently, it is vital that new team members understand the team ethos and contribute positively to it. Additionally, the role is extremely fast-paced and the successful candidate must be able to work to tight deadlines and under both scrutiny and pressure.

You will be given autonomy and responsibility to make decisions – strategic and financial. We expect you to take ownership of several key areas of our programme and to continually refine and improve our offering. You will be expected to manage the event onsite and to represent our organisation in a way that is commensurate with our reputation and expected standards.

Please note that the post involves some unsociable hours and occasional overnight stays.

This is a great opportunity to join a developing, ambitious team offering an excellent working environment. This role is ideal for candidates with some proven conference production experience or someone with good transferrable skills and a great attitude who is simply looking for a new challenge.

As an organisation our Values are Respect, Openness, Progress, Inclusion and Integrity. We strive to embed these in all our interactions with colleagues, members, stakeholders and members of the public.
