This vacancy is a key role with the Scottish Parliament and the Parliament’s staff group – the Scottish Parliamentary Service (SPS).  As a member of the Parliament’s Legal Services Team, the post will support one of our key strategic priorities by ensuring that the Parliament has the networks, resources and plans in place to scrutinise the process of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union effectively. It offers a unique opportunity to work out with Government but nonetheless at the heart of Scottish political life.

We are looking for an exceptional solicitor qualified to practise in Scotland, with experience of delivering a high quality legal service in the political sphere and a track record of effective team working.  As well as the opportunity to support and enhance the legislative process through effective scrutiny, this post offers experience of delivering wider strategic objectives, enabling you to develop beyond your legal skillset. Opportunities may also arise for you to broaden your skills and experience as part of wider business or project roles within the SPS.

Reporting directly to Judith Morrison (Solicitor to the Scottish Parliament), and as a member of my management team, you will play an important role in taking forward the Parliament’s response to this challenge. The precise nature of the role is likely to develop as the impact of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU evolves and crystallises.

If the challenge of this role excites you and you think you have the skills and experience to fill the role, I very much look forward to hearing from you.

We offer a great range of benefits including 41.5 days of leave (including public holidays), the opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, flexible working arrangements and family-friendly policies.
