The Legal team at Tesco Bank is at the heart of the business - managing legal risk and advising on legal and regulatory change, we ensure that our advice has our colleagues and customers at the heart. The team is highly regarded, and works with all levels of the business, all the way up to the board.

As a Legal Counsel in the Regulatory Legal team (reporting in to the Head of Regulatory Legal), you’ll Identify and manage legal risk, providing targeted, commercially focused regulatory legal advice on all aspects of Tesco Bank's retail banking products, product development, processes, and customer documentation.

The role is varied, and there’s scope to get involved in all aspects of the business –you bring the ambition, we’ll provide the opportunities.

The sort of lawyer we’re looking for will need to get involved in:

Providing proactive innovative legal advice - moving with the business to enable it to adapt and change.

Acting as a subject matter expert with support from senior managers within the team.

Acting a trusted advisor to Tesco Bank and key business stakeholders - You must develop a deep understanding of their business, strategy and customers so that your advice is clear, focused and commercially appropriate.

Identifying opportunities for business improvement across the Bank.

Being adaptable and flexible, working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure our products and business processes work for the Bank and our customers.

Horizon scanning for changes in the legal and regulatory landscape.

Managing outsourced legal advice, whether on an ongoing or ad hoc basis.

Responding to operational, complaint and process queries as they arise.

Managing legal risk – understanding Tesco Bank's risk appetite, escalating high risk or complex matters.

Balancing and prioritising workload, dealing with a number of competing projects at any one time.

Experience required for the role:

Qualified solicitor (Scotland or England/Wales) with proven experience PQE.

Prior experience of advising on, payments and other financial services products including consumer contracts is highly beneficial.

Track record of delivering pragmatic risk-based legal advice.

High level of integrated thinking to solve problems.

Understanding and insight into the role of an in-house lawyer.

Sound legal, analytical, drafting and writing skills.

Highly organised.

Customer orientated with excellent communication and presentation skills.

Flexibility to be able to deal with a range of legal issues.

Capability to work with the business at all levels.
