Job Description:

We are working alongside an International Financial Services business assisting them in the search for a Legal Manager to join their Edinburgh based Commercial Contracts Team on a permanent basis due to continued growth of the business.

Working closely with the business you will identify and manage a range of legal risks. This will involve predominantly focusing on contractual matters, contract negotiation, project work, providing general legal advice to the business and aiding with data protection compliance.

You will have significant exposure to senior executives across various functions of the organisation where you will be expected to provide legal advice and counsel on a range of matters. Core Responsibilities:

  • Working with a high degree of autonomy, provide legal and technical advice on commercial matters and strategic priorities including high-value work or work which is of strategic importance
  • Develop strong relationships with senior management and the executives
  • Provide legal and technical advice to all levels within the organisation, up to and including executive level, on commercial matters/strategic priorities in a risk aware, solution focused, commercial way
  • Ensure that the businesses contractual documentation is of the appropriate standard and that effective policies are in place for seeking commercial legal input and for legal agreements
  • Select, appoint and manage external advisers to ensure the provision of legal and technical advice on commercial matters to help fulfil the business aims
  • Lead and assist with team and departmental initiatives including the development of more junior members of the team and other members of the department
  • As a senior member of the team, proactively assist and support the Senior Legal Manager with the development of the team, building its profile and ensuring it keeps on top of current best practice
  • With a high degree of autonomy, assist with key strategic projects which may involve restructurings and other corporate activity

Desirable:

  • Experience of working within Financial Services
  • Understanding of IT contracts

Core Requirements:

  • Scottish or English Qualified Lawyer or Barrister
  • Experience of drafting and negotiating legal commercial contracts
  • Ideally experience of financial services, in either in industry or private practice
  • Will consider candidates with strong commercial contracts experience from other disciplines
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to plan and prioritise own work.
  • Proven skills in making business decisions as well as legal decisions
  • The ability to deliver high quality results in advance of deadlines with a proactive and positive approach
  • Excellent communication skills and poses the ability to influence internally and externally and collaborate effectively within and across teams.
