We are seeking to appoint a private client solicitor in our Edinburgh office. Ideal candidates will have experience in all aspects of Wills, Trusts, Executries and general private client advice work with a preference given to those with additional tax advice skills or in advising high net worth clients. As well as undertaking your own caseload you will also be expected to play an integral role in business development and networking activities to enhance the profile of the department and have a desire to participate in the strategic growth of the firm.

The Role

• Advise clients on Wills, Trusts, Executries and all other private client matters including tax planning advice where appropriate.
• Assist in the supervision and mentoring of trainees and others on delegated tasks
• Assist paralegals and support staff as required.
• Invest time in helping others develop
• Support and promote teamwork and maintain a regular dialogue with all members of the team
• Develop and sustain strong client relationships
• Actively network and develop meaningful relationships with clients. Develop the business through winning new clients
• Keep up to date with new developments in the law
• Attend relevant training and present back to colleagues
• Promote the firm’s brand in the marketplace, including speaking at seminars and other presentations.
• Develop your experience to master difficult technical concepts. Anticipate problems and take responsibility for developing solutions.
• Understand the firm’s portfolio of services and skills in order to maximise cross selling
• Manage risk and adhere to the firm’s money laundering and other compliance procedures
• Monitor and report on variance against targets.
• Produce well structured files with clear, concise, and accurate file notes.
• Manage personal working capital and unbilled disbursements.
• Manage quotations and terms of engagement (allowing for interim billing).
• Manage personal work in progress and debtor days.
• Work cooperatively with colleagues

The Candidate

• Qualified to practice as a Solicitor in Scotland.
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
• STEP Qualification
• Minimum of 5 Years post qualified Private Client experience
• Experience of tax planning and advising high net worth clients
• Excellent client handling skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Good organisational skills
• Good leadership and team working skills
• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a multi locational team
• Looks beyond minimum CPD
